OpenSearch is a powerful, community-driven open-source search and analytics suite that offers an exciting opportunity for developers, data engineers, and tech enthusiasts to contribute to cutting-edge search technology. Whether you’re a seasoned developer or new to open-source contributions, getting involved in OpenSearch allows you to sharpen your skills in distributed systems, indexing, query performance, and observability.

In this talk, we’ll explore how you can start contributing to the areas that interest you most, such as Machine Learning, Observability, Vector Search, or Security. We’ll cover OpenSearch’s key subprojects and best practices for collaborating with the community. I’ll also share my own experience of getting started with OpenSearch, particularly in contributing to my interesting area, Machine Learning libraries.

OpenSearch welcomes contributions in a variety of programming languages, including Java, Python, Go, and Kotlin. You can also bring your own ideas to make OpenSearch better. By the end of this talk, you’ll have a clear roadmap for engaging with OpenSearch and leveraging your contributions to advance your career in open-source search and analytics.
